History of a Negro is an anonymous book published in 1771. It is the story of a fist, denoted by the letter N. who travels with his wife and daughter and accompanied by the gifted Negro Thomas from Surinam to Amsterdam. N. manifests himself as a master with enlightened ideas that believe in the natural nobleness of man. He explains these ideas when an island is made where another foster man founded a state of health. `Good words' sort according to N. more effect than succeeding. In his goodmastership, he is consistent when his daughter Agnes declares the faithful and Christianity converted Thomas to prefer another marriage candidate: N. agrees to marry the Negro.
