A Perseverer, or more accurately a persuit of arms, is a lower-ranking weapons officer. Most of the perseverers are attached to the official heraldic authorities, such as the Guild of Arms in London or the Court of Lord Lyon in Edinburgh. In the medieval era, many nobles had their own weapons officer. Today, there are still some private persuaders who do not work for government authorities. In Scotland, for example, several persuasion arms have been assigned by the Clan Chiefs. These perseverants of arms are consulted by the members of the clan after the problems of heraldic and genealogical importance.
