Giedrius (Giedraičiai)

Giedrius (Polish: Gedrus, Russian and Byelorussian: Гедриус) (1260-1282) is the name of a historical and legendary figure, brother of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Traidenis.

The second and third editions of the Lithuanian Chronicle report that Giedrius, a brother of the Grand Duke Traidenis of Lithuania (end of the 13th century), had a castle built, named it "Giedraičiai" and adopted the title of Prince of Giedraičiai.

According to a local legend, Duke Giedrius was the founder of the village of Giedraičiai. For a long time, this place (which was mentioned for the first time in the sources written in 1338 on the occasion of the peace treaty signed between Grand Duke Gediminas and the Teutonic Knights) was the fief of the Giedraitis family.
