Walk of the Students (Costa Rica)


The Paseo de los Estudiantes is the name that is known to the boulevard located on Calle 9, south of the city of San Jose, capital of Costa Rica. This boulevard is located between Avenida 2 and Avenida 18, starting in the church of La Soledad and culminating in the facilities of the Lyceum of Costa Rica. It takes its name in honor to the students of secondary of the Lyceum of Costa Rica, the High School of Misses and the Seminary School that they opposed to the dictatorship of Federico Tinoco Granados (1917-1919), that made the small square located opposite the church the center of their protests. In 2012, the Municipality of San José built the Chinatown in San Jose, the first of its kind in Central America, to revive the city's commerce, although the name Paseo de los Estudiantes continues to be used interchangeably present. On April 28, 2016, a monument to the student civic movement of 1919 was inaugurated by the Costa Rican sculptor Édgar Zúñiga.
