Luis de Este


Luis de Este (Ferrara, 1538 - Rome, December 30, 1586). He was the last son of the Duke of Ferrara, Modena and Reggio, Hercules II and his wife Princess Renata of France, daughter of Louis XII and Duchess Anne of Brittany. His paternal grandparents were Alfonso I of Este and Lucrecia Borgia, daughter of the Pope Alexander VI. His older brother Alfonso inherited the Duchy of Ferrara.

He was an Italian prelate of the sixteenth century. In 1561, Pope Pius IV named him cardinal.
