The Taconian orogeny is a period of Paleozoic mountain formation.

An insular volcanic arc (terrane) collided with the Laurentian continent between 470 and 450 million years ago on its south coast (present-day east coast of the United States), raising mountains in what is today New Brunswick, Western New England, Eastern Pennsylvania, Virginia and North Carolina.

This orogenesis was followed 50 million years later by the collision of Avalonia and the Caledonian orogeny.
