Corn beard

Styles of corn at the end of the spike.

The corn beard, corn hair or corn hair is the set of styles that arise from a spike or female inflorescence of corn (Zea mays L.). Such styles reach about 20 cm and, when dry, are used in natural medicine as a diuretic and to clean the urinary tract.

In fact, the corn beard has several compounds with biological activity that can modify liver and kidney function. In experiments with laboratory mice, extracts of corn beard significantly reduced hyperglycemia in animals with induced diabetes. This effect is due to the increase in insulin levels.
