In pediatrics, the term millium or acne neonatorum, refers to the appearance of small granules approximately 2 weeks after birth. It occurs in 20% of newborns and can affect the cheeks and nose, forming small reddish-like papules similar to acne. Its development may be due to the stimulation of the sebaceous glands by maternal hormones that still circulate in the baby's blood. Occasionally, the granules can become infected with microorganisms on the skin, especially when trying to remove the granules.
