Bolla (tax)

Bolla was a peculiar right applied in Catalonia of unknown origin. There are opinions that it was established at the end of the thirteenth century to occur to the immense expenses that caused the defense of the country against the pirates and to cut the fraudulent entrances of the fabrics of wool, silk, cotton and thread. The courts approved the tariffs that were in force until Carlos III, at the request of Catalonia, abolished the right by subrogating the bolla equivalent.
