Children singers of Zurich

The Choir of the Children of Zürich (German Zürcher Sängerknaben) was founded in 1960 by Alphons von Aarburg.

More than a hundred children and young people today make up their different groups. They come from Zurich or from nearby places and come from all walks of life and confessions. The choir is not connected to any boarding school or special school, it is promoted by the Zürcher Sängerknaben Association. This Association, according to its Statutes, maintains "a school of song, a general choir, a choir of concerts and a choir for the trips". It proposes "vocal training, personal training and the promotion of children and young people in the framework of choral singing and solo activity". According to the new Statutes, the Association consists of "21 members at most ...", which according to §6 "can be excluded from the Board without justification".

Choir rehearsals take place two to three times a week in a local Zurich; in addition they spend two or three weeks in the camps of song of Burgundy to deepen the repertoire. Travels

Concert tours have brought the chorus to Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Austria, Finland, Holland, Portugal, United States and Russia. Important conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, David Zinman and John Eliot Gardiner have worked with the singing children of Zurich. Repertoire

For many years, choir soloists regularly participate in operatic performances in Zurich and have been invited to opera houses in Lausanne, Lyon, Metz and Shanghai, as well as the Salzburg Festival. The first recorded performances of Michael Haydn's works are a highlight of the record productions of children's singers in Zurich.
