Playa Las Machas

Las Machas beach (18 ° 26'44.09 "S 70 ° 18'13.96" O / -18.4455806, -70.3038778) is a beach in the Pacific Ocean located in the Region of Arica and Parinacota, Chile.

It is located north of the urban area of Arica and extends from Chinchorro beach to the mouth of the Lluta river to the ocean.

It is very dangerous, because it has strong sea currents on the shore, therefore it is not suitable for bathing. Here fishing is practiced, and when there is high tide, it is ideal for surfing. The beach owes its name to the macha, an edible mollusc, because in the past it existed there in large quantities. To the north of the beach, there is the possibility of camping in front of the sea, since there is not much people attending this sector. It is accessed by Luis Beretta and Las Dunas avenues.
