Timothy A. McDonnell


Timothy Anthony McDonnell (born December 23, 1937 in New York) is a Catholic priest and current Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Springfield in Massachusetts.

McDonnell was born to John McDonnell and Margaret J. McDonnell (Maiden Looney) in New York City and received her secondary education at Cathedral College in New York. Later he attended San Jose Seminary, Dunwoodie in Yonkers, New York and Iona College.

McDonnell was ordained a priest at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York on June 1, 1963 in the presence of Cardinal Francis Spellman. Nearly forty years later, Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of New York and titular Bishop of Semina.

McDonnell was named bishop of Springfield on March 9, 2004 and took office on April 1 of that same year.
