Antonio Saca


Elijah Antonio Saca González (Usulután, March 9, 1965) is a former president of El Salvador. He was president from 2004 to 2009 and was succeeded by the left-wing Mauricio Funes.

Saca is a descendant of Palestinian immigrants emigrated to El Salvador in the early twentieth century. In 2004 he was elected president for the right-wing Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA). He defeated left-wing candidate Schafik Handal. Saca is known to support the free-market economy and maintains good relationships with the United States.

In addition to his political activities, he is also a businessman, journalist and sports reporter.
