Japan is the debut of Mexican director Carlos Reygadas. It lasts for 130 minutes. Argument

The film is about a man who is going through a strong exitential crisis so he leaves Mexico City to go to the country and prepare for his death. There he lodges with an old Indian widow in her rickety house overlooking a desolate canyon. In the immensity of a wild and imposing nature, she faces the infinite humanity of the old lady and oscillates between cruelty and lyricism. Their dull senses return, awakening their desires and instincts for life and sexuality.

In 2002 he won the special mention of the prize of the Cannes Film Festival.
