Gabriele Baldini


Gabriele Baldini (Rome, 1919 - 1969) was an Italian essayist, specialist in English literature.

Son of Antonio Baldini, he was a professor of English literature at the University of Rome. In 1950 he married Natalia Ginzburg, widow of Leone Ginzburg.

Its Italian edition of the complete work of William Shakespeare has great prestige in Italy. He published numerous studies on literature in the English language from the Middle Ages to the nineteenth century. Lover of music and cinema, he was also a music critic and published an essay on the work of Giuseppe Verdi. Occasionally, he appeared as an actor in several films (like those of his friend Pier Paolo Pasolini) and collaborated as a screenwriter for I promessi sposi (1941) directed by Mario Camerini. Works
