The Rare Pet Breeds Foundation was founded in 1976 to invent rare pet breeds and to try to maintain it, with special emphasis on Dutch pet breeds. The foundation focuses on so-called farm animals, these are animals like sheep, horses, poultry, pigs, cattle and other ruminants.
The foundation aims to maintain the greatest possible biological and genetic diversity. The foundation promotes, among other things, contacts between breeders, helps set up breeding goals and promotes the organization of breeding organizations and studbooks.
