Graafschap Waldeck Wildungen


The county of Waldeck-Wildungen was a county within the Holy Roman Empire that belonged to the Upper Rhine Kreits. Weapons with fields for Waldeck, Pyrmont and the claims on Rappoltstein Older Branch (1507-1598)

In 1507 the county of Waldeck was divided between Count Hendrik VIII and his uncle Filips II. The county of Waldeck-Wildungen originated when Henry VIII received the duchy with the offices Wildungen, Naumburg and the half-office Rhoden and Korbach were run by both brothers.

After the death of Count IV of Waldeck-Wildungen in 1574, his sons divided the area further in 1575 when Samuel Wildungen got, Daniel got Numberg and got Hendrik IX Rhoden.

The marriage of Count Günther (Died 1585) with Margaretha van Gleichen formed the basis for the later acquisition of the Pyrmont County and the glory of Tonna.

This fragmentation did not take long, because after the death of Daniel and Hendrik in 1577 the reunification followed.

With the death of Count Willem Ernst of Waldeck-Wildungen in 1598, there was an end to the so-called older branch Wildungen. The area belonged to the only still branch of the Waldeck house: Waldeck-Eisenberg. Younger branch (1607-1692)

In 1607, two sons of the deceased Josias van Waldeck-Eisenberg, who died in 1588, shared the county with Christiaan Wildungen and Wolrad V Eisenberg.

After the death of Count Christiaan in 1637, his younger son Johan II received from Waldeck-Landau in 1638 Landau, but this branch died again in 1668.

Count Christiaan Louisiana married Elizabeth van Rappolstein in 1658. On the basis of this marriage, after the extinction of the graves of Rapppoltstein in 1673 he claimed a claim to this county. However, he lost the succession of Palts-Birkenfeld and the only profit was the titles and weapons: Count of Rappoltstein, Mr. Hoheneck and Geroldseck. These titles and weapons remained the prince of Waldeck until 1918.

After Waldeck-Eisenberg branch was extinct in 1692 with frost Georg Frederik, Waldeck was completely reunited under Count Christiaan Lodewijk. Meanwhile, in 1685 the prize was introduced, so that no new divisions of the country followed. Since 1692, there was only Waldeck.
