Michael C. Ruppert, (February 3, 1951, Washington, DC - April 13, 2014, Calistoga, California) was a police officer, writer, research journalist and American musician primarily known for his 2004 book , Crossing The Rubicon: The Decline of the American Empire at the End of the Age of Oil, where he pointed out the negative consequences that, in his opinion, would be unleashed globally as a consequence of reaching the peak of oil. From 1999 to 2006, he was the editor of From The Wilderness, a website and newsletter that covered issues of international politics, the CIA, peak oil, civil liberties, drugs, et cetera, and had 22,000 subscribers.

In 2009, Ruppert was the protagonist of a much-publicized documentary, Collapse, which showed in personal interview, his views on the economic crisis, and the dramatic consequences of the progressive scarcity and rising cost of oil on the future of the earth. As a musician, Ruppert was a member of the New White Trash band.

Ruppert was found dead on April 13, 2014, next to his home, with a shot to the head. A suicide note was found. books
