Rørek Dagsson

Rørek Dagsson (962-1021) was a Viking chieftain, king of Hedmark, Norway between 998 and 1021. Rørek ruled in diarchy with his brother Ring Dagsson of Ringerike. Both were sons of the chieftain Dag Ringsson and one of the five kings who opposed the reign of Olaf II of Norway. After an attempt to organize an army against King Olaf by the betrayal of Ketil Kalv failed, King Olaf, warned of the plan, went with 400 men to Ringsaker before dawn and surrounded the house where the kings were sleeping. All were taken prisoners; King Rørek was cut off and King Gudrod was cut off, the other two were banished from Norway and Olaf took possession of their kingdoms. Bibliography
