Paul Tornado

Paul Hajenius (Amsterdam, 1951), better known as Paul Tornado, is a Dutch artist. In the late 1970's he was a punk artist. biography

Hajenius studied at the AKI Academy of Art in Enschede, where he founded the group Johnny And The Moondog in 1973 with scholars Willem Wisselink and Cees Maas. This group was successful in and around Enschede.

In 1977, Wisselink and Maas were approached by Johan Visser to set up a music label. It was called 1000 Idiots Label, with the idea that there are always thousands of idiots who buy a single or plate, so the costs are out. The first recording was Van Agt Casanova, the first Dutch-speaking punk singing, in which Paul Hajenius, under his new artist name Paul Tornado, launched the struggle with Justice Minister Dries van Agt, who had decided that porn movies could only be shown in cinema rooms with less than fifty places.

The single Van Agt Casanova was often turned by VPRO. Tornado traded with his Paul Tornado Band in Paradiso. In 1980 he released an epic called Pissig. However, sales fell, and the group broke down. Today, Paul Tornado is an artist in Enschede.
