Araucano is a Chilean herbal liqueur made in Valparaiso by the Virgilio Brusco e Hijos Liquors and Jarabes Factory, which has been recognized since the year 2011 as a traditional Buenosairean liqueur by the municipality of the city.It is composed of 23 herbs and seeds which are macerated and give rise to the liqueur, which has an alcoholic degree of 28 ° and a bitter taste.
Araucano began to be sold in the mid-1920s by a German pharmacist named Fritz Hausser, who marketed it as a medicinal tonic or aperitif in his "El León" pharmacy located near Aníbal Pinto Square. To his death in 1940 his widow sells the pharmacy along with the recipe of the Araucano to the Leporatti family, who later sell the prescription to gift Virgilio Brusco in the middle of years 1950.
