L'Escargot
L'Escargot is a carving by Henri Matisse, created between summer 1952 and winter 1953.
Composed of paper and gouache forming a spiral, it is one of the last works of Matisse, cut gouaches, designed as soon as his health made him too uncomfortable to paint.
The painting is 287 × 288 cm and has been part of the Tate collection since 1962.
