Mplayer CE is an unofficial media player (homebrew) for the Wii console.

Mplayer CE is an unofficial version of the open source multimedia player Mplayer, available for different platforms. It also incorporates some code snippets imported from the Wii version of Geexbox.

At present, it is the most complete homebrew multimedia player that exists for the Nintendo console, since it allows the reproduction of all types of multimedia content in this console, supporting different sources: SD cards, USB storage devices, DVD discs (This last only on consoles whose serial number allows it) and even computers connected in local network with the console (through the use of Samba) and other Internet content providers (such as YouTube or Shoutcast). In addition, its list of compatible audio and video formats is very long. In fact, it can reproduce practically the same files as the official version of Mplayer, although always taking into account the limitations imposed by the Wii console hardware (thus, it is unable to reproduce, for example, the Matroska or MKV container). / p>

The first version of Mplayer CE came to light on February 14, 2009, and since then it has had a rapid development, with v0.76 being the last stable version and v0.77 the last beta. As reflected in the project website, the next version of the player will be v1.0, and will incorporate a totally new graphical interface with an incredibly professional appearance (from which you can see the first images on the web).

Being a homebrew application, unofficial, to be executed in a Wii console should use some of the methods that exist to load unsigned applications, of which the most popular is, at present, the Homebrew Channel. It also requires the installation of a Custom IOS in the console to allow access to all its functionalities.
