Synopsis
Princess Dawn and her friend Terry Dexter (a child of the "real world") search for "The Cave of the Whispering Orchids", where a glass key is supposed to break the spell, while Cascarrabias searches for all stop them. The princess had a pet named "Bip", a kind of "psychedelic dog" that often lost its nose, which sniffed any trace that led to "The land of a thousand caves", hypothetical place where is "The cave of Whispering orchids. " In all the chapters, the princess and her friends traveled in a kind of carriage that often moved by air, by deploying a huge balloon that allowed it. The premise of the series was that, in each episode, Curmudgeon and his flying dragon (often called "scoundrel" by its owner) were engaged in pursuing Terry and Princess Dawn in order to prevent them from locating the cave. In their endless journey, the search took them to the strangest places with very strange inhabitants as well; for example, "The island of the echo", where the living mountains were made of Swiss cheese, or Zapatilandia, where all the villagers are shoes.
The series was very creative for its time (1969-1971), and the colors had a marked psychedelic influence, and red and pink predominated. Cascarrabias himself wore a pink outfit and the princess's mascot was red. One of the most recurrent funny scenes was when, when Curmudgeon was about to catch the princess, the dragon used to sneeze, burn its owner and leave him in a sorry state. To create Cascarrabias, its author, Friz Freleng, was based on Sam Whiskers. The Curmudgeon dragon was exactly the same as Sam Whiskers in an episode of Looney Tunes called "The Knight Bugs" (mighty Knight Bugs, in English), where he alternated with Bugs Bunny with the same sneezing about his master.
The series lasted only one season (1969-1971) (in some countries it was broadcast until 1985) and it was broadcasted in the mid-1990s. The entire collection was reissued in DVD format on January 31, 2006. Cast of voice actors
