It is part of the historic-artistic complex and the city-convent of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. In 1597 the VII Duke of Medina Sidonia made donation of the land and was founded as hospital or nursing for injured and drunken sailors, incorporated into the Hospital of San Juan de Dios. The Fraternity of Our Lady of Guide, which carried out an annual procession on the day of the Sweet Name of Mary (September 12), was erected on the beach, where the moored boats were decorated with streamers and pennants, step of the image of the Virgin. In the second half of the eighteenth century, lacking the object of its hospital institution, the religious of San Juan de Dios remained in power as a mere chapel. Bibliography
