Malaga Symphony Orchestra


The Provincial Symphony Orchestra of Malaga (OSPM) is a Spanish symphony orchestra based in the city of Malaga. Its titular director is Salvador Vázquez.

Founded in 1945 by D. Pedro Gutierrez Lapuente and composed of musicians born or resident in Malaga, it is one of the oldest orchestras in Spain. Its main objectives are the dissemination of music and support for the formation of new artistic values.

Coinciding with its 50th anniversary, the Diputación decided to support the Malaga Symphony in a committed and enthusiastic manner, becoming its main promoter. A greater degree of connection was established through the change of denomination to the Provincial Symphony Orchestra of Malaga (OSPM), the assignment of a venue and rehearsal room in the Provincial Cultural Center and the creation of an Honor Committee with consultative status.

The Malaga Symphony Orchestra has offered innumerable concerts in its history, with the participation of renowned soloists such as Gaspar Cassadó, Henryk Szeryng, José Cubiles, Alfredo Kraus, Montserrat Caballé, Rocío Jurado, Vicente Amigo, David Dorantes and Manolo Sanlúcar. directors like Frühbeck de Burgos, Michael Thomas, Miquel Ortega, Fernando Velázquez or Arturo Díez Boscovich.

His activity has focused mainly on the classical repertoire, although his current artistic offer ranges from symphonic flamenco with concerts offered by artists such as Estrella Morente, through pop with singers such as Vanesa Martín and Javier Ojeda, to the music of cinema with the annual participation in the closing of the Fantastic Film Festival of Malaga.
