Diego Arreaza Monagas


Diego Arreaza Monagas (Aragua de Barcelona, ​​Anzoátegui state, Venezuela, November 8, 1854-Caracas, March 15, 1931) was a Venezuelan military and politician. Biography

Son of Luis José Arreaza Valladares and Marcelina Monagas, he left his studies at an early age and joined his political action with his cousin brother, General Domingo Monagas. He supported Joaquín Crespo's Legalist Revolution in Bermudez state and as chief of staff of the eastern army under the orders of Domingo Monagas. In 1901 he was deputy for the city of Barcelona in the Constituent Assembly, and during the last years of the government of Cipriano Castro was named minister of Public Instruction between April of 1912 and January of 1913 in one of the first cabinets of Juan Vicente Go'mez. He signed the decree of closure of the Central University of Venezuela, and within a few months he was removed from office for not agreeing to such measure.
