Radio puzzle
Société Belge Radio-Electrique (SBR) is a Belgian radio brand.
On 4 October 1922, the SBR established its headquarters and studio at the Egmontstraat 4 in Brussels, consisting of two existing radioelectric companies: SIB (Société Indépendante Belge de télégraphie sans fil) and SNR (Société Nationale Radio électrique). Many members of these two last companies were in the board of SBR. One of the earliest produced receivers of SBR called "Radio Puzzle", a modular type was taken over from SIB. This consisted of several units and were connected through connecting strips and wires. There were many combinations possible with this device, hence the name Radio Puzzle. The Radio Puzzle consisted of a reception module with a window antenna, a detection module, a high-frequency module and finally a low-frequency module with headphones. A supplementary module to send a murder writer was also available.
Only a few years later, in 1924, the new SBR plant, located at the Ruisbroeksesteenweg 66 in Ukkel, originated. In fact, SBR recruited SIB's existing facilities. The exhibition hall was located at Naamsestraat 30 in Brussels. The headquarters remained at the same address. The first SBR devices were for private use only in Belgium. The first commercial radio, called "Ondolina", was at the beginning of several versions that differed very little. The Ondolina was a radio with external pipes. The device was powered with batteries and the sound came through a separate speaker. The Ondolina worked according to the 'straight principle'. Practically all pre-war devices received the name Ondolina.
About 1927/28, the "Super Ondolina's" were created. These were SBR radios that worked according to the superheterodyne principle. Around 1929/30, SBR released several devices at different prices and shapes. The cheapest devices were named Ondolinette, followed by Ondolina types and Super Ondolina types. Also during this period, radios came on power, and devices with built-in loudspeaker. This trend continued.
